The Story of Sea Garden ~ In the Founder’s Own Words
When we took on Sea Garden, we knew we were inheriting something special. Sixteen years of love, intention, and community ~ built entirely online, one carefully chosen crystal at a time. To truly honour that legacy, we wanted to go back to the very beginning and hear the story the way only one person could tell it.
We sat down with Tisah, Sea Garden’s founder, and asked her how it all began. This is her story, in her own words.
“Sea Garden began the way most meaningful things do ~ not with a grand plan, but with a heart pull that couldn’t be ignored.
When I opened Sea Garden in 2010, there was nothing quite like it in Kenya. It became the country’s first hand-curated crystal shop ~ a space where every stone was chosen with intention, with feeling, with care. Not a wholesale catalogue, not a display of trending specimens, but a living collection that reflected a deep and personal relationship with the mineral kingdom.
For sixteen years, Sea Garden was more than a business. It was a sanctuary ~ for the community that gathered around it, and for me. It was the place where I most fully found myself, professionally and spiritually. Each crystal that passed through its doors carried a story, and the people who found their way to Sea Garden were so often people who needed exactly that ~ a story to hold, a stone that met them exactly where they were ~ in grief, in longing, in anxiety, in love, in the quiet search for calm, for protection, for grounding, for something ancient to hold onto and remind them that they are held.
I built Sea Garden from the ground up entirely online, sourcing each piece by hand, learning the quiet language of crystals through years of study and devotion. The community gathered through live sales, and occasionally at markets and pop-ups ~ rare and special occasions that made them all the more precious. It grew into something quite magical ~ a crystal adoption agency of sorts, where ancient souls waited patiently to find their forever homes. It was never about simply acquiring a stone. It was about recognising one ~ feeling the pull of an energy that existed beyond ordinary time and space.
Passing Sea Garden on was one of the most tender and difficult things I have ever done. Six years of love, poured into a place ~ and then, with great care, handed forward."
